Power quality monitoring beyond initial site
survey is performed to characterize power quality problem variations
at system location over a longer period of time. The monitoring
requirements depends on the particular problem that is being experienced.
In some cases troubleshooting may take several days i.e. cap bank switching
operations, and in the case of voltage sags during remote fault on the
utility system, it may take several weeks because system faults are probably
rare.
Harmonic distortion problems are also characterized over a period of at
least one week or longer to get a picture of how the harmonics vary with
load changes.
Also depending on the type of power problem,
monitoring equipment may be installed in various plant locations i.e. main
switchgear, load equipment, MCC, sub panel, frequency drive cabinet.
